Buildings • Mosque • Street

Djenne, Mali (191).jpg (37351 bytes) Although eager to see if the mud mosque was really as amazing as it seemed in everybody else's pictures, I was rather daunted by the prospect of a ferry crossing the river on the assumption that it would be some wooden canoe with our car somehow dangling across it.  In the event it turned out to be a relatively efficient, modern drive on ferry and decent roads all the way.
Djenne, Mali (203).jpg (25836 bytes) The hotel was also easy to find, comfortable, cheap and, perhaps most importantly, had en-suite showers and served cold beer.

Djenne, Mali (207).jpg (53938 bytes) The mosque was everything it was cracked up to be, the town was interesting with numerous examples of vernacular architecture and we did not get mobbed by the locals.

Perhaps next time we will go on Friday, market day to see more local colour, otherwise a perfect one day visit.
