Hadsel Fjord
separates the two halves of the district of Hadsel, which lie on entirely
different islands. So, rather confusingly you have to drive through
another kommune altogether to travel between different parts of Hadsel,
unless you take the ferry from Melbu to Fiskebo.
Like much of Lofoten, Hadsel kommune contains some
amazing scenery, not least along the relatively untraveled coast road (of
the Southern island) with gems such as Morfjord which was quite perfect with
mirror-like fjords and snow-capped mountains...definitely worth the detour!
Their contribution to the Nordland sculptures is in
Stokmarknes, somewhat inappropriately in the shadow of the suspension
bridge. Maybe easy to access for the townsfolk, but a bit self
defeating as a work of art! Unfortunately it is so convenient for the
town that it has been vandalised and half is now covered in
tarpaulin...unless that was part of the original design a la Christo!
In which case it should probably have been called "Clear Day & Foggy Day",
rather than "Days & Nights".
